Know Your Business

Understanding the needs of your business is the first step in finding a location. Will customers visit your location? Do you anticipate walk-in business, or will customers call for appointments? Make a list of your business-specific needs. Apply them to the space and see if it fits!

Know Your Customers

Identify who your customers are and how you can best meet their needs. Once you know who you’re trying to reach, you can determine where you’re more likely to find them.

Get a Feel for The Community

Before deciding to set up shop somewhere, investigate the community. Speak with locals and other small business owners in the area. Ask them if their business is succeeding and if they think your business would do well there.  Research where to find your target market.

Consider Accessibility

If your business doesn’t have customers driving to your location, then traffic and accessibility are an issue only for your employees. But parking, foot traffic, vehicle traffic, and sidewalk accessibility are all important things to consider.

Balance Cost & Suitability

Be sure to look at the big picture. For example, no matter how attractive the price of a site might be, if your customers can’t get there easily, your business may suffer. Spending more on a good location will pay off in the long run.
